Frequently Asked questions
Unlike traditional massage clinics, we offer tailored treatments focused on your specific areas of concern, without requiring you to undress or receive a full-body relaxation massage. If you are new to the clinic, we understand you may have questions. We are confident we can answer them, but please feel free to contact us anytime with further inquiries.
COMMON SHOCKWAVE THERAPY QUESTIONS
Q: How will shockwave therapy benefit me?
A: Shockwave therapy may be useful if you have chronic pain, a decreased range of motion, pain due to past injuries, muscles in constant spasm, tendonitis, calcified tendons or muscles, or plantar fasciitis. Treatments are specifically tailored to meet your needs.
Q: How often will I need treatments?
A: Your body will be the best guide. Some people need only a few sessions to address a specific issue, while others find regular shockwave therapy beneficial for preventative care. It can help maintain muscle tone and flexibility, and correct muscular injuries.
Q: What is the age requirement for shockwave therapy?
A: There is no age restriction. Shockwave therapy is safe for most individuals. However, it is contraindicated for those with known blood clots, coagulation disorders (such as hemophilia), tumours, open skin lesions, or who are pregnant.
Q: Which regions of my body get shockwaves?
A: At the beginning of your session, the therapist will discuss your treatment goals and ask about any ongoing or chronic concerns you may be experiencing. This information helps determine the appropriate areas of the body to be addressed during treatment.
Please note that your therapist is a registered massage therapist and strictly adheres to professional standards and scope of practice at all times. Any form of inappropriate behaviour or sexual advances will not be tolerated.
Q: Will I experience muscle soreness following a treatment?
A: While most people report significant relief from aches, pains, and stress after a session, some individuals, particularly those undergoing Shockwave therapy, may experience mild muscle soreness for a day or two. Following this, they often notice increased energy levels and an improved range of motion.
Q: I’m not sure I’m comfortable with a stranger touching me.
A: It’s completely normal to feel unsure during your first visit. Many first-time clients feel a bit apprehensive at first, especially with a new treatment like shockwave therapy. Our massage therapists are trained professionals who prioritize your comfort, privacy, and consent at all times. Most shockwave treatments are performed over clothing, and in many cases, there is no need to undress. We will always explain what to expect and ensure you feel comfortable before and throughout your session.
Q: How long will the sessions be?
A: Shockwave appointments vary depending on the treatment area. The initial appointment includes an assessment of your posture and main concern, followed by shockwave treatment and final tests, lasting up to 45 minutes, but potentially shorter. Follow-up treatments include assessments, shockwave treatment, and movement assessments, typically taking around 30 minutes.
Q: Will my extended healthcare plan cover the costs of shockwave therapy treatments?
A: Yes. Our shockwave therapy treatments are under the category of "massage". Most extended healthcare plans include massage therapy, and our office may be able to offer direct billing; however, some plans ask you to first receive a physician's prescription to be covered. Check with your insurance benefits provider if unsure.
COMMON TMJ THERAPY QUESTIONS
Q: Is there an age requirement?
A:
No, we are trained to treat all people regardless of their age, sex, or disability.
Q: How do I know if I need a TMJ Jaw treatment?
A: Some people experience constant jaw pain, especially when chewing. Others report chronic neck pain with a noticeable limitation in their range of motion. You might also experience clicking, popping, or grinding sounds, or even tinnitus. Chronic sinus problems or eye-tracking issues could also be present. Many people describe a feeling of pressure or fullness in their face or head.
Q: I'm not sure I'm comfortable with a stranger touching me.
A: It is not uncommon for first-time clients to be apprehensive about the treatment. Most clients lose this apprehension within the first few minutes of treatment. I will stay within your comfort level and respect your level of tolerance. Your treatment will be one hour long, and it will include your neck, face, and scalp being massaged, then I will put gloves on and work inside your mouth.
COMMON RAPID-NFR QUESTIONS
Q: What the heck is Rapid-NFR?
A: Rapid-NFR is a fast and effective hands-on therapy designed to relieve pain by working with your nervous system. Instead of just relaxing muscles, it targets the communication between your brain, nerves, and fascia (the connective tissue around muscles). By using precise movements and pressure, Rapid-NFR helps "reset" how your body responds to pain and tension.
Clients often experience:
Immediate relief from chronic or acute pain
Improved mobility and flexibility
Reduced inflammation and muscle tightness
Treatments are done fully clothed and typically take just a few minutes per area. While some techniques may feel intense, the results are often quick and long-lasting.
